Despite outward appearances, the next two paintings are related. One could say that the first, a street view of Paris, is an entirely different subject from the second, a study of a Felix Ziem maritime view of Venise.
While doing the the Ziem study, however, I noticed that the orange light reflected on the water also finds its way into the clouds above to provide a warm glow over the scene. Within the limited palette of the Paris street scene, I used the same technique as a way to let the light travel throughout the Paris dusk and warm it up a bit.
