March 2024 : Venice and Paris

Despite outward appearances, the next two paintings are related. One could say that the first, a street view of Paris, is an entirely different subject from the second, a study of a Felix Ziem maritime view of Venise.

While doing the the Ziem study, however, I noticed that the orange light reflected on the water also finds its way into the clouds above to provide a warm glow over the scene. Within the limited palette of the Paris street scene, I used the same technique as a way to let the light travel throughout the Paris dusk and warm it up a bit.

New paintings from Summer 2022

Back from summer vacation in Sardinia, Italy, and Denia, Spain, where we made a short stop in Marseille. I found some time to work with watercolors and ink on the street. Once I returned home, I played around with some photos I took to do some oils on Canson paper. Here are a few. These, plus more are available at the “Paintings” and “Sketches” links.
